नौवाँ खण्ड देवी के निर्गुण-रूप पर अधिक केन्द्रित है। यहाँ नाम-नाम-पर माया से, गुणों से, और सब-तरह की कल्पनाओं से देवी की अतिक्रमण-स्थिति दिखाई जाती है।
यह खण्ड माण्डूक्य उपनिषद् के “तुरीय-तत्त्व” से बहुत क़रीब है। श्रीविद्या-परम्परा का सबसे ऊँचा-शिखर यहीं है, जहाँ देवी एक रूप-धारी-व्यक्तित्व नहीं रहती, एक तत्त्व-स्थिति बन जाती है।
नवीं-दसवीं सदी के काश्मीर-शैव-दर्शन में, “स्पन्द” का सिद्धान्त इसी तरह की निर्गुण-सगुण-संगति को रेखांकित करता है। उत्पल-देव और अभिनवगुप्त ने श्रीविद्या को इसी framework में रखा। आज भी पुणे और वाराणसी के कुछ paramparas में यह दर्शन-तत्त्व जीवित है।
नौवें-खण्ड में ‘गुणातीत’ और ‘निर्गुण’ शब्दों का बार-बार उपयोग एक दार्शनिक-स्थिति लेता है। सत्त्व, रजस्, तमस्, इन तीन-गुणों से ललिता परे हैं। यह ‘गुणातीत’ अवस्था भगवद्गीता के चौदहवें-अध्याय में कृष्ण ने भी समझायी थी, और शंकराचार्य ने ‘विवेक-चूड़ामणि’ में।
नाम आठ-सौ-एक से नौ-सौ तक के बीच आने वाले शब्द-समूह में एक रोचक-pattern दिखता है। ‘महा-‘ उपसर्ग बार-बार लगता है, महा-काल, महा-लक्ष्मी, महा-पाशुपती, महा-त्रिपुर-सुन्दरी। यह ‘महा-‘ देवी की अनन्तता का सूचक है, और साथ-में महा-यान-बौद्ध-धर्म से एक रोचक-संगति भी बनाता है।
आधुनिक-तमिल-कवियों में सुब्रह्मण्य-भारती (1882-1921) ने अपनी ‘काली-कौत्तु’ और ‘शक्ति-स्तोत्र’ में इन-नामों का बार-बार उल्लेख किया। भारती श्रीविद्या-साधक नहीं थे, मगर उनकी काव्य-दृष्टि में देवी का यह ‘गुणातीत-स्वरूप’ केन्द्रीय-था।
