पाँचवाँ खण्ड श्रीविद्या-परम्परा के सबसे esoteric-हिस्से में जाता है। यहाँ देवी का “षोडशी” (सोलहवें-अक्षर वाली) रूप, बिन्दु-तर्पण की संगति, और मन्त्र-तन्त्र-यन्त्र की एकता बताई जाती है।
श्रीविद्या के दो प्रमुख स्वरूप हैं, पंचदशाक्षरी (पन्द्रह-अक्षरी) और षोडशी (सोलह-अक्षरी)। पंचदशाक्षरी सार्वजनिक है, मगर षोडशी की सोलहवीं-अक्षर गुप्त रहती है, गुरु से शिष्य को मौखिक-संक्रमण से ही दी जाती है। इन नामों में दोनों स्वरूपों का स्मरण है।
पंचदशाक्षरी-मन्त्र की पन्द्रह अक्षर तीन कूटों में बँटे हैं, वाग्भव (पाँच अक्षर), काम-राज (छह अक्षर), और शक्ति (चार अक्षर)। हर कूट की अपनी देवी-संगति है, अपना न्यास-स्थान है। षोडशी की सोलहवीं-अक्षर कौन-सी है, यह आज भी विभिन्न-परम्पराओं में विवादित है। काश्मीर-शैव-परम्परा में एक उत्तर है, कांची-कामकोटि-परम्परा में दूसरा।
पाँचवें-खण्ड में ‘षोडशी’ मन्त्र की गुप्त-सोलहवीं-अक्षर के बारे में आज भी विद्वानों में चर्चा चलती है। शंकराचार्य-मठ-परम्परा का एक-उत्तर है, काश्मीर-शैव-परम्परा का दूसरा, और भास्करराय-परम्परा का तीसरा। यह विवाद Tantric Studies के विद्वानों के लिए एक रोचक-अनुसंधान-विषय बना हुआ है।
‘पंचदशाक्षरी-मन्त्र’ की रचना की कथा भी प्राचीन है। मनु, चन्द्र, कुबेर, लोपामुद्रा, मन्मथ, अगस्त्य, अग्नि, सूर्य, इन्द्र, स्कन्द, शिव, क्रोधभट्टारक, और दुर्वासा, इन-तेरह-ऋषियों ने तेरह-अलग-स्वरूपों में इस मन्त्र को ‘दर्शन’ किया। इसलिए श्रीविद्या-परम्परा को ‘त्रयोदश-मतावलम्बी’ भी कहा जाता है।
आधुनिक-तमिल-नाडु में कांची-कामकोटि-पीठ की श्रीविद्या-परम्परा सबसे-सक्रिय है, और जगद्गुरु चन्द्रशेखरेन्द्र सरस्वती (1894-1994) ने इन-नामों पर कई-तमिल-प्रवचन दिए थे, जो बाद में ‘देवी-कलाई’ नामक संग्रह में प्रकाशित हुए। उनके उत्तराधिकारी जगद्गुरु शंकर-विजयेन्द्र सरस्वती आज भी श्रीविद्या-साधना का प्रचार करते हैं।
